Golden Visa Portugal

The Solidarity Golden Visa is a new initiative in Portugal designed to direct private investments into social projects that support vulnerable immigrants, fostering their integration and social acceptance. While the full details are yet to be finalized and confirmed by the government, this visa introduces a distinct purpose compared to the traditional Golden Visa.

How Does the Solidarity Golden Visa Work?

According to a report by Idealista, the Solidarity Golden Visa allows foreign investors to obtain a Portuguese residence permit by investing a minimum of €250,000 in social projects. These funds are allocated to infrastructure and equipment that support the integration of immigrants in vulnerable situations.

Unlike the traditional Golden Visa, this new modality offers no financial return for the investor beyond the benefit of residency.

The Portuguese government, under Luís Montenegro's administration, described this initiative as a tool to "channel private capital into social investment projects aimed at immigrant integration." Specifically, it introduces Residence Permits for Social Investment, broadening the scope of Residency Permits for Investment (ARI) to include contributions towards reception infrastructure, integration initiatives, and support programs for vulnerable immigrants.

This approach represents a significant shift in Portugal's immigration policies, focusing on social solidarity and inclusion.

How Much Does a Solidarity Golden Visa Cost?

The Solidarity Golden Visa is a new type of residence permit in Portugal that focuses on investments in social projects, with the primary goal of addressing challenges like affordable housing and supporting vulnerable immigrant communities. These investments may be directed towards initiatives such as reception centers and social support infrastructure, aimed at easing housing market pressures and fostering integration.

The estimated cost of obtaining a Solidarity Golden Visa is €250,000. However, the government has yet to officially confirm the minimum investment required. The intention is to set a lower threshold compared to other visa types, making this option more accessible and appealing to investors.

How Can Requests for Solidarity Golden Visas Be Made?

As of now, there is no specific implementation date for the Solidarity Golden Visa. However, the program is expected to bring significant benefits to Portugal by channeling private capital into social and housing projects, improving immigrant integration, and promoting a model of responsible and sustainable investment.

Once the measure is officially enacted, further details on application processes and requirements will be announced.
