Snow and rain warning issued for Portugal

Snow and heavy rain will place mainland Portugal under a yellow weather warning on Monday, with four districts also affected by snowfall, according to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA)

According to IPMA, a yellow weather warning has been issued for several districts in mainland Portugal, including Viseu, Évora, Porto, Faro, Setúbal, Santarém, Lisbon, Leiria, Beja, Castelo Branco, Aveiro, Coimbra, and Portalegre, from 9 AM to 9 PM on Tuesday. This is due to forecasts of heavy showers, occasional hail, and thunderstorms.

Additionally, the district of Guarda is under a yellow warning for snowfall from today until Tuesday, with potential disruptions such as road closures, structural damage, and local supply issues due to snow accumulation and ice formation.

Snowfall is also expected to affect Vila Real, which will be under a yellow warning from 6 AM to 12 PM on Tuesday, as well as Castelo Branco and Braga.

In addition, a yellow weather warning has been issued for the districts of Porto, Faro, Setúbal, Viana do Castelo, Lisbon, Leiria, Beja, Aveiro, Coimbra, and Braga due to rough seas, with waves expected to reach between four and five meters high.

The IPMA has also placed the districts of Faro, Setúbal, Santarém, and Lisbon under a yellow warning for strong winds, with gusts of up to 75 km/hour, particularly along the coast.
