Portugal's Tourism Schools will launch a training program in January for immigrants aiming to work in the tourism sector. Participants selected for the program will receive a monthly stipend of €522.50, along with travel support.

The training program for immigrants aspiring to work in Portugal's tourism sector, announced by the Government as part of its measures to “accelerate the economy,” is set to commence in January, according to a Government source speaking to ECO.

This initiative was one of 60 measures outlined by the Government during the summer to stimulate the national economy. The program focuses on integrating and training migrants and refugees for careers in tourism, aiming to “enhance their integration” into Portuguese society.

As detailed by the Government in July, the program represents a €2.5 million investment from the Tourism of Portugal budget. The training will be delivered through the Tourism of Portugal schools, according to information from the Ministry of Economy.

According to ECO, a government source has clarified that the training program will span approximately three months, followed by a one-month internship. The program will include not only technical and practical components but also language skills and socio-cultural training.

Participants will receive a monthly stipend equal to the Social Support Index, amounting to €522.50, funded by Turismo de Portugal. Additionally, travel costs will be covered, as confirmed by the same source.

Immigrants interested in the program must express their interest through AIMA (Agência para a Integração, Migrações e Asilo), which will then relay this information to Turismo de Portugal.
